Ladipo Soetan

Mr Ladipo Soetan is a 1987 graduate of law from the Obafemi Awolowo University.  He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988 at the age of 20 and has been in full time practice since 1991.  Mr Soetan holds a Masters degree in Law from the University of Lagos.  He started his legal career in 1989 with the Civil Litigation department of the Federal Ministry of Justice.  He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, the Capital Market Solicitors and Chartered Institute of the Arbitrators UK (Nigeria Branch).

He is presently the managing partner of Siji Soetan & Co., a firm of legal practitioners specialising in commercial law based in Lekki, Lagos.  Over the last twenty years Mr Soetan has acquired extensive experience in litigation, arbitration, tax, and regulatory issues.  He regularly advises some of the largest operators in the Nigerian Oil and gas Industry.  

Some of his legal papers include i) Why you can’t Get A Mortgage (ii) How Law can Regulate Society (iii) Marginal Fields and the Development of ADR (iv) Arbitration: Are Arbitral Award truly final? The Future of the Nigerian Law Firm (v) The Constitution and Dollar Denominated Salaries (vi) Legal and Regulatory Issues in the Privatization of NEPA (vii) Legal and Regulatory framework of E-Commerce.  He was the editorial consultant for the second edition of the epochal work “Nigerian Petroleum Law” by Godfrey Etikerense.

He is the author of “Monologues and Other formings” a book of verse published in 1997 and was one time Chairman of the Lagos Chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors. His interests include cycling, writing, photography and jogging.  He is married with twin boys.
